I studied medicine at the University of Zaragoza, my hometown, obtaining a degree in 1993 and a General Physician certificate from the Ministry of Health and Consumption. I passed the MIR exam that same year and obtained a place to train as a specialist in Neurosurgery at the Hospital Clínic i Provincial and at the Children's Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, centers in Barcelona where I worked until the end of 1998. Afterward, I began my work as an attending physician at the Neurosurgery Service of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in the same city, where I stayed for the next 7 years. In 2005 I moved to Palma de Mallorca, where I obtained the position as Head of the Neurosurgical Department at Son Dureta Hospital and, since 2010, at Son Espases University Hospital. In addition to these centers, I have visited various hospitals in Spain, the United States, France, Belgium, and Germany, and I have taken part in many congresses, courses, and scientific meetings, to complete my training over the years. In 2011 I obtained a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid with an Extraordinary Award.
In the private sphere, I have been working at Juaneda Miramar since 2011, and since 2015 at the QuirónSalud Palmaplanas Hospital. At the same time, since 2017 I am also an associate professor at the Medical School of the Balearic Islands, teaching neuroanatomy and neurosurgery in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th years.
My training and my interest have been very general and broad throughout my professional career, and I have worked in practically all areas of the specialty, although the ones that mainly concentrate my greatest surgical activity at this time are vascular neurosurgery (cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations), skull base surgery (pituitary tumors, neurinomas, and meningiomas), and spinal surgery.
In the field of research, I am the author of more than 70 scientific publications, with more than 150 communications and presentations at congresses in our specialty. I have taken part as principal investigator and co-investigator in 18 competitive projects and clinical trials, and I am part of the Neurotrauma, Neurocritical, and Neurooncology Research Group of the Balearic Islands Research Institute (IDISBa). I am also a member of the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery (SENEC) since 1994, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) since 2006, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) since 2008, and the World Spine Society (WSCS) since 2010, and I regularly review papers for the journals "Neurosurgery", "World Neurosurgery" and "Neurosurgery".
I am registered as a member of the College of Physicians of the Balearic Islands (COMIB) with the number 0708/30066.
